Abstract

The high number of evictions produced in Spain as a result of the global economic crisis of 2007 has brought the drama of families evicted in our country to the front page of national and international press. Although the crisis has caused similar effects in other countries such as the UK, there have been no social and political problems as occurred in Spain and no such media coverage. This work focuses on a comparative study between English and Spanish mortgage system, paying particular attention to the rights it gives the mortgagee and the measures that have been taken in both countries to alleviate the situation of the mortgagors. The aim of this is to analyze the causes of those differences and the possibility of introducing in our country resources which in the UK have avoided social problems that have not been resolved here efficiently.
