Abstract

The author of this paper thinks that international cooperation is needed to set up a harmonized intellectual property system in as many countries as possible to guarantee the protection of Intellectual Property rights and to eliminate part of the existing legal uncertainty. one possible approach to copyright protection is Digital Rights Management (DRM), a scheme that uses technology to identify conditions of use of intellectual property. But those systems have to be strictly monitored, because if they are not monitored, they will give huge power to the managers of the DRM system, and so the balance that intellectual property rights try to achieve, will not exist. That efforts by copyright owners to vindicate their rights by taking legal action against infringers are unlikely to reduce unauthorized reproduction and distribution to a level that copyright owners consider acceptable. It may be that the best strategy for companies would be to concentrate on developing a business model that provides a satisfactory experience for their customers at a reasonable and fair price.
